Photo Metadata Viewer & Remover
See and strip location and camera data from a photo before you share it.
Free. Runs in your browser: nothing you enter or open is uploaded.
Metadata found
JPG, PNG and WebP files are cleaned without re-compressing: the picture data is copied byte for byte and only the metadata blocks are left out. Other formats are redrawn and saved as PNG.
How to use it
- Choose or drop a photo.
- Check what it carries: camera, date taken and, most importantly, whether it records the place it was taken.
- Press Remove metadata and download, then share the clean copy instead of the original.
Questions
What is EXIF data?
Information a camera or phone writes into a photo: the make and model, settings, the date and time and often the GPS position where it was taken. Anyone who gets the original file can read it.
Do social networks remove it for me?
Most large networks strip location data from photos they publish, but files sent by email, messaging apps set to send the original, cloud links or forums often keep everything.
Does removing metadata reduce quality?
Not for JPG, PNG or WebP. The tool leaves the picture data untouched and only drops the metadata blocks, so the clean file looks identical and is usually a little smaller.
Why keep the rotation flag?
Phones often store a photo sideways and add a flag telling apps to turn it. Without the flag some apps show the picture on its side. The flag says nothing about you, so it is kept unless you untick it.
