Fi, a pet products company based in New York, is recalling two dog supplements because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall notice, published by the US Food and Drug Administration on 8 September 2026 after the company's announcement, covers one lot each of the Fi Calming supplement and the Fi 8-in-1 Formula supplement. According to the notice, the problem traces back to an ingredient supplied to Fi's manufacturer, and the manufacturer has suspended production while it investigates.
The FDA's notice does not report any illnesses. The supplements were sold direct to consumers and through online retailers including Amazon and Chewy.com.
Which products are affected
The recall is limited to the following lots, both in 180 gram containers:
- Fi Calming Supplement for Dogs, lot number 26118, UPC 8 50064 80011 1
- Fi 8-in-1 Formula Supplement for Dogs, lot number 26159, UPC 8 50055 11168 4
The FDA's listing in its animal and veterinary recalls section dates the posting to 8 September and gives the reason as the products' "potential to be contaminated with Salmonella". Local news reports published on 10 September repeated the same lot numbers and added that the company was notifying customers.
Why a supplement recall matters to people as well as dogs
Salmonella in pet products is a risk to the whole household, not just the animal that eats them. The FDA notice explains that people can be infected by handling contaminated products, or by touching surfaces or pet waste after the animal has eaten them, especially if they do not wash their hands thoroughly afterwards. In people, the notice lists nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramping and fever as symptoms, with rare but more serious complications.
In pets, the notice says Salmonella infection can cause lethargy, diarrhoea or bloody diarrhoea, fever and vomiting, and that some pets show decreased appetite and abdominal pain.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says pet food and treats can carry germs that make people and pets sick, and lists those at higher risk of serious illness as children under 5, adults 65 and older, pregnant people and anyone with a weakened immune system. Its basic advice applies to any pet product, recalled or not: wash your hands before and after handling it, and clean bowls, scoops and feeding mats often.
