This Nectar review covers one of the best-known mattress-in-a-box brands in the US and its range of memory foam and hybrid beds. Nectar, owned by Resident Home (the company behind DreamCloud), built its name on an affordable all-foam mattress backed by an unusually long home trial and a lifetime warranty. NerdBible has not slept on these mattresses for this page. Instead, we read Nectar's own range, trial and warranty pages, the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission's recall record, and the lab-based reviews published by Tom's Guide, Sleep Foundation, Mattress Clarity and the National Council on Aging, then compared what they found.

Our verdict

Nectar is a sound value pick for shoppers who want a supportive, medium-firm to firm memory foam bed and the security of a year to decide. Its 365-night trial and Forever Warranty are among the most generous terms in the category, and independent testers broadly agree that the flagship Nectar Classic offers good support, good motion isolation and solid value. Where reviewers split is on firmness, edge support and how cool it sleeps, which is a useful reminder that a mattress is personal and that the long trial is doing real work. Side sleepers who want a soft, cradling feel, and very hot sleepers, should look closely before buying. Everyone else will find Nectar a low-risk place to start.

What it is and who it is for

Nectar sells online and through some retail partners. Its current mattress line has two families of four models each:

  • Memory foam: Nectar Classic, Nectar Premier, Nectar Luxe and Nectar Ultra.
  • Hybrid: Classic Hybrid, Premier Hybrid, Luxe Hybrid and Ultra Hybrid, which add a pocketed coil support core under the foam.

There is also a Nectar Kids mattress, and the brand sells frames, adjustable bases, pillows and bedding. The models step up in thickness, cooling features and comfort layers as you move up the range.

Nectar is a good fit for back sleepers, couples who are disturbed by a partner's movement, budget-conscious buyers who still want a recognised brand, and anyone nervous about buying a mattress without lying on it first. It is a weaker fit for light side sleepers who want to sink in, people well above average weight who need extra support, and very hot sleepers.

Key features

A 365-night home trial

Nectar's trial policy gives mattress buyers 365 nights to decide. There are conditions worth knowing. An opened mattress cannot be returned until 30 days after delivery, which Nectar uses as an adjustment period. Returns are collected through donation partners, so the mattress must be clean and free of rips, stains and visible wear. An unopened mattress can be returned straight away, but one left unopened for more than 90 days loses eligibility. Other products have shorter trials: 100 nights for toppers, 60 for furniture and 30 for bedding.

The Forever Warranty

Nectar's warranty runs for as long as the original buyer owns the mattress. During the first ten years, a confirmed defect gets a brand-new mattress of equal or greater value at no charge. After that, Nectar will repair and re-cover or replace the mattress at its discretion, with a shipping fee each way that is waived if a defect is confirmed. Covered defects are visible indentations deeper than 1.5 inches, foam that splits or cracks in normal use, and manufacturing faults in the cover. Normal softening, comfort preference, stains and damage are excluded, the mattress must sit on a proper frame or foundation, the cover must stay on, and the warranty is not transferable.

Memory foam built for support

The Nectar Classic is a three-layer all-foam bed with a cooling cover. Tom's Guide's testers called it firm rather than plush, rated it 7.5 out of 10 for firmness, and said it feels more like lying on the mattress than sinking into it. Other labs placed it closer to medium firm, as covered below.

Motion isolation for couples

Memory foam is good at absorbing movement, and most testers found Nectar typical or better than typical here. The NCOA gave the Classic full marks for motion isolation and Mattress Clarity scored it 4.7 out of 5, while Tom's Guide gave it a more modest 3.5 out of 5.

Free shipping and returns

Nectar says shipping and returns are free and that in-stock items usually ship within one to two days. Financing through Affirm is offered at checkout.

How much does a Nectar mattress cost?

Current prices are on our card above, so here is the structure. The Nectar Classic is the entry point and each step up the range, from Premier to Luxe to Ultra, costs more, with the hybrid version of each model sitting above its all-foam equivalent. Every model is sold in the usual sizes from twin to California king. Nectar's list prices are rarely what people pay: the site runs near-permanent sales, often with bedding or pillows bundled in, so it pays to compare the sale price rather than the crossed-out figure. Monthly financing is available. There is no subscription and no membership.

Is Nectar safe?

Every mattress sold in the US must meet federal flammability standards, and the CPSC's recall record is the place to check a brand's history. In one recall, the CPSC announced that about 700 Nectar Premier mattresses made on two specific dates did not meet the federal flammability standard. They were made by a contract manufacturer and sold only on Nectar's website; no incidents were reported, and owners were offered a free replacement or a full refund. We found no other CPSC recall for Nectar mattresses. If you own a Premier, the CPSC notice lists the affected manufacture dates.

New foam mattresses commonly give off a smell when first unpacked. Mattress Clarity suggests allowing around two days for it to air out. If you have health concerns about materials, ask your doctor and check the certifications Nectar lists for the specific model you are considering.

What could be better

  • Edge support is inconsistent. Two labs found the edges sink when you sit near them, which matters if you sit on the side of the bed to dress or need support getting up. One lab disagreed.
  • Not the coolest foam bed. Results varied, but Tom's Guide and Sleep Foundation both suggest very hot sleepers may want something with more active cooling, such as a hybrid.
  • Firm for some side sleepers. Tom's Guide would hesitate to recommend the Classic to side sleepers because of limited contouring; others disagree.
  • Trial conditions. The 30-night minimum and the donation-condition rule mean a stained or damaged mattress may not be returnable, so use a protector from day one.
  • Constant sales. Near-permanent discounts make it hard to know the real price. Compare the checkout total with other brands rather than the advertised saving.

Who should choose something else

If you sleep hot, consider a hybrid with coils or a latex mattress, which tend to breathe better than all-foam beds. If you are a side sleeper who wants to sink deeply into a soft surface, look for a plush memory foam model. If you weigh well over 230 pounds, several labs suggest a thicker hybrid with stronger support. And if you would rather lie on a mattress before buying it, a showroom brand may suit you better, although Nectar's long trial reduces that risk considerably.

Nectar review: what other reviewers found

  • Tom's Guide found the Nectar Classic firm, with excellent edge support and good value for back sleepers, but thought it lacked pressure relief for side sleepers and could feel warm.
  • Sleep Foundation rated it medium firm and very good for couples on motion isolation, with acceptable edges, but two of its three testers ran slightly warm.
  • Mattress Clarity praised its cooling and motion isolation and recommended it to back sleepers and couples, but marked it down for edge support and for heavier sleepers.
  • The National Council on Aging rated the range highly for older adults, giving the Classic top marks for motion isolation and pressure relief, while warning that weak edges may challenge people with limited mobility.

Where the reviews agree and disagree

The labs agree on the big picture. Nectar is good value, its trial and warranty are generous, and its memory foam isolates motion well enough that most couples will not be disturbed by a partner turning over.

They disagree on three points, and those are exactly the points that depend on your body and habits. On firmness, scores ranged from about 6 out of 10 at Sleep Foundation to 7.5 at Tom's Guide, which explains why some testers call it a side sleeper's bed and others say side sleepers need more give. On edge support, Tom's Guide gave full marks while Mattress Clarity and the NCOA found the perimeter sinks. On temperature, Mattress Clarity was impressed with the cooling cover while Tom's Guide and Sleep Foundation found it warm for some testers.

For a buyer, that spread is the strongest argument for Nectar's trial. If reviewers with lab equipment cannot agree on firmness, no review can decide for you. Use the first 30 nights to adjust, then decide well before the year is up.

Is Nectar worth it?

Yes, for most shoppers looking for a supportive foam mattress at a fair price. Nectar's strengths are its value, a year-long trial that takes most of the risk out of buying online, and a lifetime warranty for the original owner. Its weaknesses, mixed edge support and warmth for some sleepers, are real but well documented, and the trial lets you find out whether they matter to you. Hot sleepers and plush-loving side sleepers should consider a hybrid or a softer model first.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Nectar 365-night trial work?

You have 365 nights from delivery to decide, but an opened mattress cannot be returned until 30 days have passed. To return it, you contact Nectar, which arranges collection through a donation partner, so the mattress must be clean, unstained and undamaged. Unopened mattresses can be returned straight away, but they lose eligibility after 90 days. Toppers, furniture and bedding have shorter trials.

What does the Nectar Forever Warranty cover?

It covers indentations deeper than 1.5 inches, foam that splits or cracks in normal use, and manufacturing defects in the cover, for as long as the original buyer owns the mattress. For the first ten years a confirmed defect gets a new mattress free; after that Nectar repairs or replaces it. Normal softening, stains and damage are excluded, and the mattress must be on a proper foundation.

Is the Nectar mattress firm or soft?

It depends on who is testing. Sleep Foundation and the NCOA place the Nectar Classic around medium firm, while Mattress Clarity rated it slightly firmer than average and Tom's Guide called it firm. Your weight and sleeping position change how it feels, so heavier back sleepers may find it supportive while lighter side sleepers may want more cushioning.

Has Nectar had a recall?

Yes, one. The CPSC announced a recall of about 700 Nectar Premier mattresses made on two specific dates because they did not meet the federal flammability standard. No incidents were reported, and owners were offered a replacement or a full refund. The CPSC notice lists the affected dates. We found no other CPSC recall for Nectar mattresses.

Is Nectar good for hot sleepers?

Opinions vary. Mattress Clarity found the cooling cover very effective, while Tom's Guide and Sleep Foundation reported that some testers ran warm and suggested very hot sleepers consider other options. If heat is your main concern, look at Nectar's hybrid models, which add coils for airflow, or a mattress designed specifically for cooling.
