Qustodio is an all-round parental control suite. From one dashboard you can filter websites and apps, set time limits and screen-free routines, see browsing and activity reports, check your family's location and monitor calls and messages. It also tracks social messages on WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and others, with alerts for anything concerning, and adds a panic button on Android.

Bark starts from monitoring. It scans texts, email, browsers and more than thirty social apps, and sends AI-powered alerts across categories such as bullying, self-harm, predatory behaviour, violence and drugs. It also offers screen time schedules, web filtering and location, plus its own Bark Phone.

The difference is emphasis: Qustodio is built to control and report, Bark to detect risks in what children say and see.

Our verdict

Qustodio leads for most families because it covers the full job in one place. Filtering, time limits, routines, detailed reports, location and call and message monitoring all sit in one dashboard, and it works across phones, tablets, computers and Chromebooks. If you want to shape how and when your child uses a device, not just hear about problems, it is the more complete tool.

Bark is the better choice for parents of older children and teens whose main worry is what happens in their messages and social feeds. Its alerts are designed to surface bullying, self-harm signals or contact from predators without you reading every conversation, which can suit a teen who needs more privacy. The tamper-resistant Bark Phone is an option for a first phone.

On iPhone, both apps are limited by what Apple allows, and Qustodio's call and message monitoring on iOS needs a computer. Whichever you choose, talk to your child about it; the tools work best alongside that conversation.
