Only the camera is requested, never the microphone. The picture stays on your device: nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded, and the camera switches off when you press Stop or leave the page.

How to use it

  1. Press Start camera and allow the camera when your browser asks.
  2. Check the live picture, the resolution and the frame rate. If you have several cameras, pick one from the list; to see the highest resolution, choose it under Ask for.
  3. Press Take a still to save a picture as a PNG file, and Stop when you are done.

Questions

Why is my webcam not working here?

The usual causes are a blocked permission, another app such as a video call already using the camera, or a privacy switch or shutter on the laptop. The message under the buttons says which one the browser reported.

Why is the frame rate lower than the camera says?

Cameras lower their frame rate in dim light to collect more light per frame. Better lighting usually brings it back up. A busy computer or a USB hub can also slow it.

Why is the picture mirrored?

A mirrored preview feels natural, like looking in a mirror, and most video call apps show you this way. Other people see you the right way round. Press Mirror to switch it off.

Is my video sent anywhere?

No. The picture goes from the camera to this page and nowhere else. Stills are made in your browser and saved straight to your device.
