Zendesk launches employee service AI agents with a monthly resolution cap

Zendesk is rolling out AI agents for internal IT, HR and finance help desks from 3 November. Each agent gets 10 or 15 automated resolutions a month, then pauses unless more are bought at $0.99 each.

Zendesk has announced the general availability of AI agents built for employee service, the internal help desks that IT, HR, legal and finance teams run for their own staff. The announcement, dated 2 October 2026, also sets a monthly cap on how many requests each of these agents can resolve automatically before it stops, with extra resolutions priced at $0.99 each.

The rollout runs from 3 November to 1 December 2026. Some customers who bought Zendesk for customer support but also use it for employee service are included by default, and have to contact Zendesk before 3 November if they want to opt out.

What Zendesk is launching

Zendesk says the agents provide "AI-powered support in the help center, Slack, and Microsoft Teams" and can "connect to and leverage content from 20+ enterprise knowledge sources while still respecting access permissions to the content". The release includes:

  • Conversational support in the help center, Slack and Microsoft Teams.
  • More than 20 knowledge connectors, including Google Drive, SharePoint, Confluence, Notion, Slack, Teams and Box.
  • Resource-level permissions for connected content.
  • A default AI agent deployed automatically for each brand, with the option for admins to create more.
  • Automatic escalation to human staff through a Create ticket action.
  • Actions that connect the agent to workflows built in advanced action flows, so it can carry out tasks across several business systems.

Zendesk's stated reason is that "the information needed to support employees is often spread across multiple systems, which can make it difficult for employees to find the information they need and slows down the teams supporting employees."

The new limits and what extra resolutions cost

"Beginning November 3, 2026, all eligible accounts will include a number of automated resolutions for each employee service AI agent per month," Zendesk says. The included amounts are:

  • Growth and Professional plans: 10 automated resolutions per employee service AI agent per month.
  • Enterprise and Enterprise Plus plans: 15 automated resolutions per employee service AI agent per month.

When an agent reaches its allowance, Zendesk says it "pauses until the limit resets the following month or additional automated resolutions are purchased at $0.99 per resolution." Extra resolutions are bought from the Subscriptions page in Admin Center or through a Zendesk account representative.

That $0.99 rate is lower than the rates on Zendesk's Employee Service pricing page, which lists additional automated resolutions at $1.50 each on a committed volume or $2.00 each pay-as-you-go and shows a set number of automated resolutions per human agent seat on each plan. The announcement does not say how the new per-AI-agent allowance relates to that existing allowance.

The same pricing page lists Employee Service Suite Growth at $59 per agent per month billed annually, or $79 billed monthly, and Suite Professional at $99 per agent per month billed annually, or $125 billed monthly. Enterprise pricing is through sales.

Who is affected

Zendesk says the agents are being rolled out to Employee Service Suite Growth plans and above, as well as "Customer Service Suite accounts that use Zendesk for employee services." Suite Team, the entry plan, is not on the list.

The opt-out applies to the second group. Zendesk says: "If you're on a Customer Service Suite plan and want to opt out, contact Zendesk Customer Support or your Zendesk account representative prior to the rollout start date."

How it fits Zendesk's wider AI push

The launch follows Zendesk's 14 September announcement of specialised AI agents, including industry agents starting with commerce and an agent builder that lets admins create custom agents. Shashi Upadhyay, Zendesk's president of product, engineering and AI, said then that "the era of generic, one-size-fits-all AI agents is over" and that "the best agents are specialists". Zendesk's release notes through 2 October list further AI agent changes, including AI-guided onboarding rolling out to eligible AI agents customers through October.

What buyers should do now

  • If you run an internal help desk on a Customer Service Suite plan, decide before 3 November whether you want the employee service agents. Doing nothing means they roll out.
  • Estimate volume. At 10 or 15 included resolutions per agent per month, a busy internal help desk could reach the cap early in the month. Count how many routine IT and HR questions you handle and price the overage at $0.99 each.
  • Plan for the pause. Once an agent hits its limit it stops until the next month unless more resolutions are bought, so decide in advance whether to buy more or let requests go to human staff.
  • Review permissions on the knowledge sources you plan to connect, such as SharePoint or Google Drive, before an agent starts answering from them.
  • If you are comparing AI support tools, ask each vendor how a resolution is counted and what happens when an allowance runs out, since this differs between products.

What is still unknown

Zendesk has not said exactly how it counts an automated resolution for employee service agents, whether the default agent created for each brand counts toward the per-agent allowance, or whether the $0.99 rate is fixed or introductory. It has not explained how the new allowance interacts with the automated resolutions already listed on its pricing page, or what happens to employee requests while an agent is paused beyond the option to escalate to a human through a ticket.
