PNG, JPG or WebP: which should I use?

JPG suits photos and is understood everywhere. PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency, so it suits logos and screenshots. WebP does both and makes smaller files, and every current browser shows it.

What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so clear areas are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default. PNG and WebP keep transparency.

Can I convert an animated GIF?

Only the first frame is converted. PNG, JPG and this tool make still images.
