Metronome
An accurate online metronome with time signatures, accents and tap tempo.
Free tools that run in your browser. Nothing you type, open or create is uploaded to NerdBible or anyone else.
Moderato
Keyboard: Space starts and stops, the arrow keys change the tempo by 1 (hold Shift for 10), and T taps the tempo. Clicks are timed by your device's audio clock, not by the page's timers, so they stay steady while you scroll or switch tabs. In 6/8 and 7/8 each click is an eighth note; 6/8 is accented on beats 1 and 4, and 7/8 is grouped 2 + 2 + 3.
How to use it
- Set the tempo with the number box, the slider or the plus and minus buttons, or tap the tempo of a song.
- Choose a time signature, a subdivision and a sound.
- Press Start or the Space bar. The light shows the beat; press Stop or Space again to end.
Questions
How accurate is this metronome?
Each click is scheduled ahead of time on the audio clock of your device, the same clock that plays the sound, so the gaps between clicks are exact to the sample. The page's own timers only decide when to queue the next few clicks.
What does tap tempo do?
Press Tap tempo, or the T key, in time with a song. After a few taps the metronome sets itself to the average of your last taps. Pause for two seconds to start a new measurement.
Which subdivision should I practise with?
Start without subdivisions. Eighths help with steady strumming and picking, triplets with swing and shuffle feels, and sixteenths with fast passages. The subdivided clicks are quieter than the main beat.
Will it keep going if I switch tabs?
Yes. It runs until you press Stop. Closing the tab stops it.
