In every unit
Conversion factors follow the international definitions (1 inch is exactly 2.54 cm, 1 pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg). Data units show both the decimal kilobyte of 1,000 bytes used by drive makers and the binary kibibyte of 1,024 bytes used by many operating systems. A month is an average of 30.44 days and a year 365.2425 days.
How to use it
- Pick a category such as Length or Temperature, or type a unit name in the search box to jump straight to it.
- Enter a value and choose the units to convert from and to. Swap reverses them.
- Read the answer, copy it, or check the table below for the same value in every unit of that category.
Questions
Why does my 1 TB drive show as 931 GB?
Drive makers count 1 TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Windows divides by 1,024 three times and shows the result as GB, though it is really GiB, so the same drive shows as about 931. Nothing is missing.
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9. 100 °F is (100 − 32) × 5 ÷ 9, which is 37.78 °C.
Is a UK gallon the same as a US gallon?
No. A UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 litres and a US gallon is 3.785 litres. Pints and fluid ounces differ too, so the tool lists both.
What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
Internet speeds are in megabits per second, file sizes in megabytes. There are 8 bits in a byte, so a 100 Mbps connection downloads at most about 12.5 MB per second. Use the Data category to convert.
