When to use it

ʼn writes U+0149 (Small n Preceded by Apostrophe), a small letter from the Unicode Latin Extended-A block, encoded since Unicode 1.1. On a page saved as UTF-8 the letter can simply be typed; the entity helps in ASCII-only templates and code samples.

The name comes from the HTML5 list (much of it shared with MathML), so it works in every current browser but not in XML or XHTML served as XML, where the numeric reference is the safe choice.
