Dates are counted as whole calendar days, so daylight saving changes do not shift the results. When adding months lands on a day the month does not have, such as 31 February, the result is the last day of that month.
How to use it
- Choose a tab: Age, Days between, Business days, Add or subtract, Hours or Time card.
- Enter the dates. For business days, tick the days you do not work, type any public holidays to skip, and use the second box to add working days to a date.
- For times, use Hours to find the time between two clock times, move a clock time forward or back, or add up a list of hours and minutes.
- On the Time card, enter each day's start, finish and break. The week's total appears below; add your hourly rate if you want a gross pay figure.
- Read the result straight away; press Copy next to any figure you want to keep.
Questions
How do I calculate hours between two times?
Enter the start and end time. The result shows the difference in hours and minutes, as a decimal and in minutes.
What if the time period goes past midnight?
When the end time is earlier than the start time, it is treated as the next day, so 22:00 to 06:00 counts as 8 hours.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60: 45 minutes is 0.75 hours. The calculator does this for you and shows both forms.
About this tool
Three ways to work with hours
- Time between two clock times. 09:00 to 17:30 is 8 hours 30 minutes, or 8.5 hours. When the end is earlier than the start, the calculator treats it as the next day, so 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours.
- Add or subtract from a clock time. Find out when a 3 hour 50 minute journey that leaves at 22:15 arrives, or what time it was 90 minutes ago.
- Add up durations. Paste a list such as 2:30, 1h 15m, 45m or 1.75h, one per line. Start a line with a minus sign to take it away.
Hours and minutes or decimal?
Many timesheets, invoices and payroll systems want decimal hours: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75, not 7.45. The calculator shows both forms, plus the total in minutes, so you can copy whichever your form asks for.
