Focus 1 of 4
Times are measured from the clock, not by counting ticks, so they stay accurate when the tab is in the background. Browsers slow down background tabs, so the display and the beep can arrive a second late there; the time itself is not lost. The beep is made by your browser, with no sound files.
How to use it
- Pick Timer, Stopwatch or Pomodoro.
- For the timer, choose a preset or type hours, minutes and seconds; for Pomodoro, set the focus and break lengths and the number of rounds.
- Press Start. The page title shows the time left, so you can see it from another tab, and a beep plays at the end.
Questions
Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes. It works out the time left from the clock each time it updates, so it stays correct in a background tab. Keep this tab open: closing it stops the timer.
Why did I not hear the beep?
Check the sound box is ticked, the volume is up and your device is not muted. Some phones silence web pages in silent mode or when the screen is locked. Press Test sound to check.
What is the Pomodoro technique?
A way of working in focused blocks, traditionally 25 minutes, each followed by a 5 minute break, with a longer break after four blocks. The breaks help you keep concentration through the day.
