When to use it

The copyright sign for notices such as © Example Ltd. In most countries copyright exists without any notice, so the sign is a convention rather than a requirement. Browsers still accept the old form &copy without a semicolon, but always write the semicolon.

The name dates from HTML 4, so it works in every browser and in old email clients.

Browsers also accept the legacy form &COPY without a semicolon, for compatibility with old pages; new HTML should always end the reference with a semicolon.

This character also has an emoji form: ©️ Copyright. Add U+FE0F after it for the emoji style or U+FE0E for the text style.
