QR Code Scanner

Scan a QR code with your camera or from an image or screenshot, and check where a link goes first.

Free tools that run in your browser. Nothing you type, open or create is uploaded to NerdBible or anyone else.

Codes are read on your device: camera frames and images never leave your browser. The camera only starts when you press Start camera, and your browser asks first. Scammers stick fake QR codes on parking meters and posters, so the scanner shows the full address of a link and never opens it on its own: check the website name before you tap Open link.

How to use it

  1. Press Start camera and allow camera access, then hold the QR code inside the frame.
  2. Or switch to Image or screenshot and drop, choose or paste a picture that contains a QR code.
  3. Read the result. Links, Wi-Fi details, contacts and email addresses are laid out field by field, and you can copy the text.

Questions

Is it safe to scan a QR code here?

Scanning itself is harmless: the code is only text. The risk is where a link takes you. This scanner shows the full address and the website name and never opens anything until you choose to, so you can spot a fake site first.

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Yes. Switch to Image or screenshot and paste the screenshot with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V, or choose the image file. This is the easiest way to read a code that is on your own screen.

How do I get the Wi-Fi password from a QR code?

Scan the code shared by the network owner and the network name, security type and password are shown separately, so you can copy the password into another device.

Why is the camera not starting?

The browser needs your permission, and the page must be open over HTTPS, which it is. If you blocked the camera before, allow it again in the address bar or site settings. Some browsers in apps such as social media do not give pages camera access at all.

About this tool

About the QR code scanner

Scan a QR code with your phone or laptop camera, or read one from a picture: choose an image, drop it on the page or paste a screenshot. That last option is the easy way to read a code that is on your own screen, such as one in an email or a PDF.

Clear results

The scanner recognises what the code holds and lays it out field by field:

  • Links show the website name and the full address.
  • Wi-Fi codes show the network name, security and password, ready to copy.
  • Contact cards, email addresses, phone numbers, text messages and map locations are shown in plain words.

Safer than opening links straight away

Fake QR codes stuck on parking meters, posters and parcels send people to copycat payment or login pages. This scanner never opens a link by itself. It shows you the address first, warns you about unencrypted links and look-alike characters, and only opens the page if you choose to.

Private

Camera frames and images are read on your device and never uploaded. The camera starts only when you press the button, and it stops when you switch tabs or leave the page.
