Tip & Bill Splitter
Work out the tip and split a bill between people.
Free tools that run in your browser. Nothing you type, open or create is uploaded to NerdBible or anyone else.
Enter what each person ordered. Their share of the tip follows the size of their order. The bill amount above is filled in from these.
Amounts are worked out in whole cents, so the shares always add up to the total exactly. When a total does not divide evenly, a few people pay one cent more and the note says how many. Tipping customs differ a lot between countries; in some places service is already included in the bill.
How to use it
- Enter the bill amount.
- Pick a tip percentage or type your own.
- Enter how many people are paying, or switch to splitting by what each person had and enter each order.
Questions
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Customs vary. In the United States many people tip on the amount before sales tax, but tipping on the full bill is common and simpler. Enter whichever amount you want the tip to be based on.
What does rounding up do?
It rounds each person's share up to the next whole amount, so nobody has to deal with coins. The extra goes to the tip, and the real tip percentage is shown underneath.
How does the uneven split work?
Each person pays for what they ordered plus the same percentage tip on it, so someone who had a bigger meal adds a bigger tip.
