When to use it

A raised dot used as a separator in footers and bylines, as the Catalan punt volat (col·lecció) and for multiplication in some notations. For a list, a real <ul> is better than dots in a line.

The name dates from HTML 4, so it works in every browser and in old email clients.

Browsers also accept the legacy form &middot without a semicolon, for compatibility with old pages; new HTML should always end the reference with a semicolon.
