Questions
How do I convert military time to regular time?
For times from 1300 to 2359, subtract 1200 and add pm: 1600 is 4 pm. Times before 1200 are am, and 1200 itself is noon.
Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
Both are used. 0000 is the start of the day and is what most systems use; 2400 sometimes marks the end of a day.
How do you say 0800 in military time?
Zero eight hundred hours. Leading zeros are spoken, and a time such as 1530 is fifteen thirty hours.
About this tool
How military time works
Military time is the 24-hour clock written as four digits with no colon. The day starts at 0000, midnight, and runs to 2359, one minute before the next midnight. Hours after noon simply carry on counting: 1 pm is 1300 and 11 pm is 2300.
- Converting to standard time. Below 1200 the time is the same in the morning, so 0930 is 9:30 am. From 1300, subtract 12: 1745 is 5:45 pm.
- Saying it aloud. 1430 is fourteen thirty hours, and 0900 is zero nine hundred hours.
- Noon and midnight. 1200 is noon. 0000 marks the start of a day; 2400 is sometimes written for the end of a day, such as a shift that runs until midnight, and the converter accepts it.
Any input you have
Type 1430, 0905, 14:30, 2:30 pm or 9am; the converter recognises each form and shows the others. The chart lists every hour of the day in both forms for quick reference, handy for shift rotas, flight times and hospital records.
