Online Notepad

A plain text notepad with several notes, saved only in this browser, with find and replace.

Free tools that run in your browser. Nothing you type, open or create is uploaded to NerdBible or anyone else.

Your notes

Notes are kept only in this browser on this device. They are not synced or backed up, and nothing is sent to NerdBible. Clearing your browsing data or site data, using a private window, or switching browser or device means the notes are gone, so download anything you want to keep.

    How to use it

    1. Start typing: the note saves itself in this browser a moment after you stop.
    2. Press New note to start another. The list on the left shows every note, named after its first line.
    3. Use Find and replace to change text, and Download .txt to keep a copy as a file.

    Questions

    Where are my notes stored?

In your browser's local storage for this site, on this device only. They are never uploaded, so nobody else can read them, but they are not backed up either.

Will my notes still be here tomorrow?

Yes, in the same browser on the same device, unless you clear your browsing or site data, use a private or incognito window, or the browser removes stored data to free space. Download notes that matter.

Can I open my notes on another device?

No. There is no account and no sync. To move a note, download it as a text file or copy it and paste it on the other device.

    How much can I store?

Browsers usually allow a few megabytes per site for this kind of storage, which is room for a lot of plain text. If a note cannot be saved, the page says so.

What happens if I have the notepad open in two tabs?

Each tab saves its own changes. When a note is changed in another tab, this tab picks up the change unless you are editing that note at the time, in which case your tab's version is kept when it next saves.

    About this tool

    About the online notepad

A plain, fast place to jot things down: a shopping list, meeting notes, a draft email or text you want to tidy before pasting it somewhere else. There is no account and no sign-up. Open the page and start typing.

    What it does

    • Saves as you type, a moment after you stop, with a clear saved indicator.
    • Several notes, listed by their first line and the time they were last changed.
    • Counts words, characters with and without spaces, and lines.
    • Find and replace, one at a time or all at once, with an option to match case.
    • Download any note as a .txt file, or copy it in one click.

    Where your notes live

Notes are stored in your browser's local storage on this device and nowhere else. Nothing is sent to NerdBible or any server, which keeps them private, but it also means they are not synced or backed up. Clearing your browsing data, using a private window, or switching to another browser or device leaves them behind, so download anything you need to keep.

If the notepad is open in two tabs, each tab saves its own changes and picks up edits from the other when you are not typing in the same note.
