Spin the Wheel

Pick at random from a list, or spin a yes or no wheel.

Free tools that run in your browser. Nothing you type, open or create is uploaded to NerdBible or anyone else.

Preset

Winners so far

The winner is picked with your browser's cryptographic random number generator before the wheel starts turning; the animation then stops on that slice, so every item has exactly the same chance. The share link keeps your list after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server.

    How to use it

    1. Type or paste your items, one per line. Names, choices, tasks or prizes all work. For a quick decision press the Yes / No preset; press it again to get your own list back.
    2. Press Spin, or press the space bar, and wait for the wheel to stop. The winner is announced under the wheel.
    3. Tick Remove the winner to draw without repeats, and use Copy share link to send the same list to someone else.

    Questions

    Is the wheel really random?

Yes. Each spin picks the winner with the Web Crypto random number generator built into your browser, with every item equally likely, and only then animates the wheel to land on it. How fast or slow the wheel looks has no effect on the result.

How many items can I add?

Up to 100. Long labels are shortened on the wheel to fit, but the full text is shown when an item wins.

How do I pick several winners without repeats?

Tick Remove the winner after each spin. Each winner is taken off the list after it is announced, so the next spin chooses from the rest.

How does the Yes / No wheel work?

The Yes / No preset swaps your list for two equal slices, Yes and No, so each answer has exactly a 50% chance. Press the preset again to put your own list back. The page address ends in #yes-no, so you can bookmark or share the yes or no wheel directly.

    Is my list saved?

Not on our side. It is kept in the page address after the # sign, which stays in your browser. Bookmark the page or copy the share link to keep it.

    About this tool

    About spin the wheel

A spinning wheel is a fun, visible way to pick at random: a raffle winner, the next person to speak, tonight's dinner, a classroom question or a giveaway prize. Type or paste your items, one per line, and press Spin or the space bar.

    Is it really random?

Yes. The winner is chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator before the wheel starts turning, with every item equally likely. The animation then stops on that slice. How fast or slow the wheel appears to spin has no effect on the result, so nobody can time a click to influence it.

    Useful options

    • Yes / No preset: one press swaps your list for two equal slices, Yes and No, for a quick fair decision. Press it again to get your list back. The address ends in #yes-no, so the yes or no wheel can be bookmarked or shared.
    • Remove the winner: each winner is taken off after it is announced, so you can draw several without repeats.
    • Up to 100 items: long labels are shortened on the wheel to fit, and the full text is shown when an item wins.
    • Copy share link: send the same list to someone else, or bookmark it for next time.

    Where your list is kept

Not on our side. The list lives in the page address after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server. Bookmark the page or copy the share link to keep it.

    Running a draw in public

Share your screen or put the page on a projector so everyone sees the spin, and announce the list before you start so the result is beyond dispute.
