When to use it
writes U+2004 (Three-Per-Em Space), a space from the Unicode General Punctuation block, encoded since Unicode 1.1. Invisible and space characters are easy to lose when text is copied, so the entity makes them visible in source code.
The name comes from the HTML5 list (much of it shared with MathML), so it works in every current browser but not in XML or XHTML served as XML, where the numeric reference is the safe choice.
It has no visible shape of its own, which is why the box above shows it with a tinted background.
