When to use it
A thin space, usually a fifth or a sixth of an em. Used between digit groups and around some punctuation in typeset text. It allows a line break, so in numbers such as 1 000 000 and before French punctuation the narrow no-break space   (U+202F) is safer.
The name dates from HTML 4, so it works in every browser and in old email clients.
It has no visible shape of its own, which is why the box above shows it with a tinted background.
