Page Numbers & Watermark for PDF
Add page numbers, a header, a footer or a watermark to a PDF.
Free tools that run in your browser. Nothing you type, open or create is uploaded to NerdBible or anyone else.
Choose a PDF to start.
Text is set in Helvetica, one of the standard PDF fonts every reader has, so it supports Latin letters (English and most Western European languages) but not, for example, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic or Chinese. The watermark is drawn on top of each page, see-through at the opacity you choose; it is visible text, not a security feature, and can be removed with a PDF editor.
How to use it
- Choose or drop a PDF.
- Pick where the page numbers go, their format and the first number. Tick the cover option to leave page 1 unnumbered.
- Optionally add header or footer text and a watermark such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL.
- Press Preview first pages to check, then Add and download.
Questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. pdf-lib, a PDF library running in your browser, writes the numbers into a copy of your file on your device.
Does it change the rest of the document?
No. The pages keep their text, images, links and fonts; only the new text is added on top. Text stays selectable.
What happens with landscape or rotated pages?
Numbers are placed according to how the page is displayed, so they sit at the bottom of a rotated page as you see it.
How does the first number work with a cover page?
With the cover option ticked, page 1 gets no number and page 2 gets the first number you set. Page 1 of N then counts only the numbered pages.
Why does it say it cannot write a character?
The standard PDF fonts only cover Latin letters. Replace the character, for example curly quotes with straight ones, or leave it out.
