Text & Markdown to PDF

Turn text or Markdown into a clean PDF.

Free tools that run in your browser. Nothing you type, open or create is uploaded to NerdBible or anyone else.

0 words

Markdown understood here: # headings (levels 1 to 6), **bold**, *italic*, `code`, bullet lists, numbered lists, > quotes, code blocks between ``` lines and links, which are printed as the link text followed by the address. The PDF uses the built-in Helvetica font, which covers English and Western European languages; other characters, such as emoji or Chinese, are replaced with a question mark and listed so you can check them.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your text, or open a .txt or .md file.
  2. Choose Markdown or plain text, the page size, font size and margins.
  3. Press Create PDF. Long text wraps and flows onto new pages by itself.

Questions

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The PDF is created by your browser on your device, so private notes and drafts stay private. Nothing is sent to NerdBible or anyone else.

What is Markdown?

A simple way to format plain text: a line starting with # becomes a heading, words between two asterisks become bold, and lines starting with a dash become a bullet list. If your text is not Markdown, choose Plain text and every line is kept as you typed it.

Why were some characters replaced?

The PDF uses the standard Helvetica font that every PDF reader has, so the file stays small and opens anywhere. That font covers English and Western European languages but not emoji, Greek, Cyrillic, Chinese and similar scripts.

Can I click the links in the PDF?

Links are written out in full after their text, so they can be read on paper and copied from the screen. They are not clickable in this version.

About this tool

About text and Markdown to PDF

Notes, README files and drafts written in plain text are easy to write and awkward to hand over. This tool lays them out as a tidy PDF that anyone can open and print.

Two modes

  • Markdown: lines starting with # become headings, **bold** and *italic* are styled, dashes become bullet lists, and code blocks, quotes and numbered lists are formatted. Links are printed as their text followed by the address.
  • Plain text: every line is kept exactly as written, which suits logs, poems and anything where asterisks should stay asterisks.

Choose the page size, font size and margins. Long text wraps and flows onto new pages by itself. You can also open a .txt or .md file instead of pasting.

Limits worth knowing

The PDF uses Helvetica, the standard font every PDF reader has built in, which keeps files small and portable. It covers English and Western European languages, but not emoji, Greek, Cyrillic or Chinese, which are replaced with a question mark. Links are written out in full rather than made clickable.

The PDF is created by your browser on your device, so private notes and drafts stay private.
