Focus 1 of 4
Times are measured from the clock, not by counting ticks, so they stay accurate when the tab is in the background. Browsers slow down background tabs, so the display and the beep can arrive a second late there; the time itself is not lost. The beep is made by your browser, with no sound files.
How to use it
- Pick Timer, Stopwatch or Pomodoro.
- For the timer, choose a preset or type hours, minutes and seconds; for Pomodoro, pick a focus preset such as 25 / 5 or 50 / 10, or set your own focus and break lengths and the number of rounds before a long break.
- Press Start. The page title shows the time left, so you can see it from another tab, and a beep plays at the end.
Questions
How long is a Pomodoro?
Traditionally 25 minutes of focus followed by a 5 minute break, with a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes after four rounds. You can set any lengths you like.
Does the Pomodoro timer work in a background tab?
Yes. It calculates the remaining time from the clock, so it stays accurate when the tab is not visible. Closing the tab stops it.
Can I skip a break?
Yes. Press Skip to move straight to the next phase, or Reset to start again from the first round.
About this tool
How the Pomodoro technique works
You work on one task for a fixed block, traditionally 25 minutes, then take a short break. After four blocks you take a longer one. The fixed end makes it easier to start, and the breaks help you keep going through the day.
- Presets. 25/5 is the classic. 50/10 suits work that takes a while to get into, 90/20 matches longer deep work blocks, and 15/3 is a gentle start. Every number can be changed.
- Long breaks and rounds. Set the long break and how many rounds come before it; the label shows which round you are on.
- Automatic switching. The next phase can start on its own, or wait for you to press Start.
- Beep and title. A beep sounds at the end of each phase, and the browser tab shows the time left.
Reliable in the background
The timer works out the time left from the clock at every update, so it stays correct while you work in another tab. Keep this tab open: closing it stops the timer. Some phones silence web pages when locked or in silent mode, so test the sound first.
