When to use it
An invisible character that prevents a line break at its position without adding any space, for example to keep a symbol attached to a word. It replaces the older use of U+FEFF for the same purpose.
The name comes from the HTML5 list (much of it shared with MathML), so it works in every current browser but not in XML or XHTML served as XML, where the numeric reference is the safe choice.
It has no visible shape of its own, which is why the box above shows it with a tinted background.
