When to use it
An invisible joiner that asks the font to combine its neighbours into one glyph. Emoji sequences such as families, professions and the rainbow flag are built with it, and it controls letter joining in scripts such as Arabic and Devanagari.
The name dates from HTML 4, so it works in every browser and in old email clients.
It has no visible shape of its own, which is why the box above shows it with a tinted background.
